Music press kit 101
If you’re starting out and need to get your name out to every radio station, record label, music magaizine or club, it’s important that you have a professional press kit. It just consists of a couple of things:
1. A biography – Chronical breifly your music, musical writing abilities, where you’ve studied music and where you’ve played. Include web sites you have, and any recent good references that have been published about your band.
2. A Professional photo – Not your typical iphone pic, make this one special. Don’t be afraid to drop a little money on it. Make sure you reflect yourself accurately.
3. Your Music – Demo CD (make sure it sounds good, not just thrown together to give an idea of what your like), personal website with videos. Represent yourself in the best way possible.
Mail it or email it. Make it catch your eye, but don’t come accross like you’re trying too hard.
A presskit is a basic tool every band needs. Update it every couple months to make sure you only have the most recent info in there.
