The theme of a lot of music marketing websites these days is fan interaction, or “selling intimacy”. Fans don’t just want a song to listen to, they want a moment, an experience, a memory. So it’s up to you to be creative, and see how you can come up with the best way of balancing growing your band, with making money.
Here’s an interesting thought…
Myxer is all about mobile marketing (ringtones, mobile websites, etc.). Try writing a song that features the audience playing back ringtones (that they buy off of Myxer) during one of your performances. Write it as an extra part in your song’s arrangement. Before the show, get people to download it. When it comes time for the song, have everyone take out their phones, and when it gets to the chorus or whereever you have that part come in, have everyone play it from their phone. People love singing along with lyrics they know, this is just a creative twist on the same theme. They can get same bond with the band without knowing a single lyric.
This get’s you fan interaction, you make money off the ringtone downloads, and it gives people a story to tell, which if you haven’t heard, will propel your band much faster then almost anything else will. Case in point, Susan Boyle. Ok talent, but incredible story…
